Born: about 1796 in Virginia
Died: February 1880 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky
Little is known about Adam Renner, especially his early years. His wife's name
was Margaret and she was about 17 years younger than he, which raises the
possibility of a previous marriage.
He and Margaret had only three children who we know about: Elizabeth Ann (who
married her cousin, William A. Cromer), Henry L.D. (who married Sidney McClure)
and Jemima (of whom nothing further is known).
Adam is on the Rockcastle County
tax lists for
years, but 1835 is the only year he has acreage (40 acres on Skeggs, also see
Elisha Renner). His
first census appearance is in 1850.
According to both the 1860 census and his 1880 death record, Adam was a tailor.
From the census and an 1866 deed mention, his home was very near Pongo, which
would have been an appropriate location for a businessman.
Adam was a prominent member of the
Line Creek Baptist
Church as early as 1839, when he was a messenger from that church to the
Cumberland River Association's annual meeting. The other messengers for 1839
from Line Creek were Mathew Warren, Andrew Baker, and Andrew Decker.
His death record says he lived 80 years in Rockcastle County, which is probably
incorrect by a year or two. He died of "old age."
There are no clues as to where he or Margaret may be buried, but the
Walnut Grove
Cemetery would be a good guess.
