The Nichols Cemetery

Situated on a knob west of Hwy 1249 halfway between Pongo and Buffalo, the view from the Nichols Cemetery offers one of the best panoramas in the area. Pongo is just off the frame to the left; Buffalo is hidden by trees on the right.

Persons buried in the Nicholas Cemetery include members of the Thomas Jefferson Nichols family (T.J.'s stone is in the right background in the bottom photo) and members of the James Andrew Smith family.

It's possible, perhaps very likely, that Thomas B. Nichols Sr and Margaret Claunch Nichols Ferrell are also buried here. Thomas, who died about 1864, once owned this and surrounding land.

Someone has done a very good job in cleaning up the cemetery and building a gravel road around it during the summer of 2002.
